Is that why the plumber told me it wasn't worth it to reuse the old valves? That's scary.

I demonstrated that to a plumbing class in a corn field a few years back,from a safe distance of course!

somebody over in Jersey a bunch of years ago plugged a leaking relief on a commercial boiler in a elementry school over the weekend.. before the weekend was over the heater took off like a Titan II up and out of the boiler room thru the floors...lucky with no injuries
