Why is this red wire not plugged in?

Hi all, every winter I have to open the front pannel on my roof top Carrier A/C unit and reset the gas valve to make the heater work. Well this summer I had an A/C tune-up done and today I went to reset the gas valve and noticed a loose red wire.

There are three wires coming off the pilot lighting system: two plug into some kind of a control unit. The red wire is not plugged in, its just sitting next to an open plug numbered 5. The red wire runs to a probe about an inch long that burns bright red when the flames start to blow. The heater works fine that we have noticed, should I plug this wire in?

thanks for the help.

either trace the wireing diagram or see if you can take a pic of the part/ and diagram and post it

Was the ignition module changed out recently, or last winter.
If so, they may be using a module that uses the internal sensor instead of teh external flame sensor.
