Why is my a/c weak every time I turn it on for the season?

Hey - Give the original tech a little break, little.

I had a no cool situ over the weekend. Friend works for a large HAVC co. He came out on his dime, his time, on Sunday. It read 35psi pressure. Should have been 60 to 70. Of course there is a leak somewhere. No obvoius leaks, no compressor oil, no noise. A very small leak that over 2.5 years of use finally got low enough to not cool.

He topped of the R22 to 60psi, checked various temps at different locations then added more r22 to 70psi. System took about 4lbs. He had a special scale and kept a log of what was used.

Then another brief check for obvious leaks, none were found.

The plan is to monitor the situation and then spend the time for a full leak check at a later time. In my case that may be in another 2 years or it may be next week. More likely in '08 or '09.

I was not charged anything, I have cooling.

Should I have insisted taking up more of my friends Sunday afternoon? No! If it was a paid tech, that wasn't a friend, I would have insisted the leak be fixed before adding r22.

My guy spent 45 minutes and charged me $95.00.
Last year, he charged me $120.00
And still really has not resolved my problem.
The system is only 3 years old.
He also told me that he noticed some oil.
He said he tightened a valve, whatever that means.
He told me to keep an eye on it.
I don't know how much he added, now I know I should have asked.

So now, I don't know what to do.
Wait till it goes again, and call someone else, or
call someone now.

I probably will wait till it goes again.
And knowing my luck it probably will go on the hottest day of the year.
.

There is another forum where I have asked my question,
www.hvac-talk.com and boy what a bunch of guys they are there.

I did learn a lot though.

Only 3 years old? Please don't tell me that it was installed by this same guy, and don't tell me it's a Goodman.

Yes, it was installed by this guy, who I thought was pretty good.
The actually hook up I think was done by this HVAC guy, the setting up of the unit or whatever needs to get done before hook up, I believe was done by the contractors workers, I think.

It's a Keeprite.

I have a keeprite too for about 3 years also and works fine so far... this doesn't help you anything... but I think your trust on this HVAC guy really hurting you.... I would call a company who install hundreds if not thousands of air conditioner and in the industry for over ten years to do a complete evaluation on the your system... I know this probably cost... but I think at least your spending are backed by famous big company rather than one individual.... I am facing the same delima with my lawn mower... requires to take it to a special store to repair... after a few more attempts on fixing it myself which is kind of unlikely... sometimes there is no choice... got to surrender...

Thanks for your advice.
I think you are right, I will have to call someone else.

I think I will call the company and see what they have to say.

I think I will wait and see if it happens again and then I will contact someone else to see if they can find the leak.

My HVAC guy said that he tightened a "valve" whatever that means.

He used the soap method and could not find any leak.
