white rogers ignition control

does anybody have any experience with replacing a white rogers 50a55-474 board over to a 50a55-843? this is going to an american standard freedom 90 central air unit all the wiring except a jumper between r01 and r02 on the main plug is the same. Im baffled i can't get the igniter to start up....

Read the install instructions CAREFULLY and look at it's wiring diagram. There is something about Trane that requires a jumper or removing one for that board I believe. Something to do with the limit circuit or a pressure switch loop.

I did put a jumper on terminals R01 and R02, and i think i followed the correct settings on the DIP switch positions. I have the unit power off right now trying to reset it, and about to turn it back on again. This thing is making be balder by the minute scratching my head!

what exactly are the DIP switch functions? my old board had 3 and my new one has 4....

Not sure. Do you have the installation instructions? WR is very good at explaining how to setup the board. Did you get the replacement board from Am Std or is it a universal type?

WR, the model board that i had to replace is a 50A55-474 and the wr replace ment is 50A55-843 everything on the board (connections) were the same except for 4 dip switches instead of 3 and the formentioned jumper wire on R01 and R02 that was pointed out on the instructions they said the jumper was needed with trane units but american standard is the same company..

While Trane and American Std are the same company it may not be the same setings.

A Tempstar is an ICP product and so is Carrier but not the same settings or features.

If the instruction says use the jumper for trane it may not be used for a American Standard

On page 3 it says TRANE APPLICATIONS jump RO1 to R02

Says nothing about American Std so don't jump

Set dip sw 1 to ON, dip sw 2 to on, dip sw 3 to off, dip sw 4 to off

Flash code 5 is for a flame roll out switch

Need to check the limit that is around the burners, typically these limits are resetable.

Now you need to figure out wy this failed or tripped.

High gas pressure..gas valve failure
Cracked heat exchanger
and so on

I have never and I say again never seen a roll out limit fail. Not to say yours didn't. But there is usually a condition that this limit has caused this flash code.

So, was the board you replaced flashing a 5 code before you replaced it?

We have two of the same units for the house, i took the board from the working unit over to the disabled unit and plugged it in and get a continuous flash which is good. swapped the board again still a continuous flash. How do i check the limit around the the burner's or and reset them?

When you replaced the board did you make a connection to R01 and R02?

If there were no connections between the two terminals when you replace the board then put the jumper between R01 and R02

This should make the flash code stop
