White-Rodgers zone valve 1361 wiring ???

One of the zone valves in my house is a White-Rodgers 1361. It appears to have been installed in 1993. There are three other valves, Honeywell V8043 units of uncertain vintage.

I replaced all 4 tstats this fall with Robertshaw 300-224 units. Since that time, the White-Rodgers valve will not open. Calls for heat from the tsat resulted in no movement of the valve at all. I found the current installation instructions and discovered it had been wired incorrectly. I rewired the valve according to the instructions, and now when the tstat make a call for heat, the valve rotates a full 180 degrees never stopping in the open position.

This is all very curious as I haven't had an issue with the heat in this zone previously, although it may be possible I really didn't notice anything because the other zones were operating OK.

So I guess my questions run along these lines:
are the current wiring instructions OK for a 15-year old valve?
could the previous mis-wiring resulted in a valve that kinda-sorta worked?
could the mis-wiring have damaged the valve?
has something inside the valve failed? (warp switch??)
am I missing something?

White-Rodgers zone valve 1361 wiring ???

They may have changed the wiring, so as not to have to replace a defective powerhead.
