Where is my furnace filter located?

I know nothing about HVAC, and am hoping to learn as much as possible. I am currently trying to find the furnace filter so that I can replace it. From there, I intend to read up on routine maintenance to keep this thing going for years to come. Until then, can anybody point me in the direction of the furnace filter? I have a general idea of where I think it may be, but am unsure. This is a gas furnace.

I assume the model number is HW 8204 IID.

I took these pictures the first time I went up in the attic. I forgot to take my camera up the last time I went in so that I could get a picture of the opposite side of the unit. I believe the filter is on the backside where I have the yellow arrow pointing. There is a rectangular metal panel with 2 screws holding it in place. Is my filter in there?

Here's the other end of it.

Thanks for any help or suggestions you may offer!

Look inside the house for the return air vents, they should be there.
There going to be the louvered vents that no air blows out of when it's running.

Is this air handler actually hanging from perforated straps????

Man, there are really some hacks out there in the HVAC world aren't there.
I guess its like that in every trade. Who spawns these guys?

You need to get some Unistrut or Kindorf, min 3/8 all thread, and bolt taps, and hang this unit properly from blocking between your rafters. Yeah your filters might be behind your return air registers. I hope.

Geeeez.

In the picture, the corner of it is right next to the bleach bottle.

Yeah, I have the filter inside the house. Someone (who may not have known what they were talking about) told me to be sure to change the furnace filter too, and said that it was in the attic. Just to clarify, there is no filter in the attic, right? Is that what you're saying?

It's not between the rafters. It sits up far enough to reach under it. The floor is decked all of the way across. Before I bought this house, I seen a few of them hanging with those straps. I'll put that on the list of things to replace. Thanks for the tips!

Also, no air filters behind the air registers. Just the 20x20x1 in the living room wall.
