What would you do?
Hello all,
I am working on a project at the moment and have come to a HVAC road block. So, I would like to get your input on what would you do in this scenario if you were in my shoes. Thank you in advance. The problem to solve is in the following: 1) Currently, in the unfinished basement, I am looking to finish only one room (about 14x12x9). At this time, the basement remains about 68 F to 70 F and the humidity is about 38% to 42%. 2) I would like to have the isolated ability to heat/cool this room. 3) Because of the basement environment, I have ruled out the ductless system options. 4) Part of the supply lines to the main level will be above this new room and is available as possible solution(s) to this problem: a) one 10" (main supply off of plenum) b) one 8" split into two 6" ducts c) one 8" duct Thank you, again, in advance. oodssoo |

What would you do?
Run new trunk line for basement, and install a zoning system.

Option A:
I am thinking about splitting one of the 8" supply to the main level. By this, I mean, I think I could accomplish this by getting a 8-8/6 wye as well as adding a damper for airflow control into this room. Either this, or I could just split the 8 into two 6s, with one manual damper controled. Option B: For the Zoning option, as I would like to do the installation myself, as well as running a new basement trunk line, what type of "set up" would you suggest which has had good reliability rating and cost effective? (Honeywell, Arzel, etc?) Last edited by oodssoo; 10-31-2012 at 09:05 AM. |
