Weathermaker 8000 gas furnace will not light

Our furnace is acting up. We need to shut off the furnace and wait a bit and then turn it back on. Sometimes it will run the furnace but today, it will not. We get to the point where it ignites and we see the orange glow and see flame but then it shuts down. What could it be? My husband took out the thermalcouple and ran sand paper lightly over it. Is it something we can fix on our own, as we do not have money for a major repair or replacment. Thank you for any help!

Oh and we do not have any codes showing up (like code 31) on our furnace.

May be a bad circuit board. Carrier had lots of problems with cold solder joints on them. Is there a continuos 24 volts from W to C on the circuit board when this happens. Need a volt meter and tape the door switch ON to check this.
