Weather protection, for exterior located Hvac(package) units??

Just wondering what is a way to protect the Hvac cabinet, to a outside located Hvac(package heat/ac) unit?

I just finished washing, and drying my unit, and the paint is dull, especially on the top surface. So would it be ok to hand wax( with car wax) and a polisher to get a new shine back to the finish of my unit? Will this present any harm to the exterior surface of the cabinet? Is thier any areas I should be more carefull about getting the wax residue?(polisher slinger wax residue)?

Wax away. Shouldn't hurt the cabinet at all.

Waxing is fine.
Only on cabinet, and fan guard though.
