Water heater

Hi all
I might be in need of a gas fired storage type domestic hot water heater to replace my present tank-less coil in my boiler.
The problem is space, there isn't any. can these units be installed in a well insulated enclosure outside and abutting the rear wall of my boiler room.
I live on Long Island ,NY

I have looked at the on demand, wall hung units, but the reviews are only fair.

As long as the structure meets the building requirements, fresh combustion air requirements and the heater is vented properly you will be all right. I had a remodel done on my home several years ago and the boiler and water heater were outside during 1 month of freezing weather. Nothing froze up, the pilot never blew out on either device. Only a tarp covered the equipment. New water heaters do not radiate much heat so you may consider installing a small electric heater for freeze protection....although you may get some help from any hot water piping in the room. And I agree with staying away from tankless.

I would check into an electric water heater to put in that shed. No venting, no combustion air, no flue pipes and no gas pipes. All you need is water in water out and a electric line.
