Water Cooled HVAC condenser

I have come across a a couple of water cooled HVACS as against the commonly available air cooled HVACs eg http://www.alliedenergysystems.com/ and http://www.freus.com/.

Does anyone have experience / an opinion on this. I know water cooled condensers are used extensively commercially but is there a downside to a residential implementation?

I am surprised that some of the major players do have any product offerings.

ps: I am a newbie here so please excuse any mistakes in my post.

First link. That one has had some problems.

Second one don't know.

Cost between a standard air to air, and one of those. may not justify the additional expense of the water source.

You can match their efficiency with current higher SEER air to air units. Although they claim higher SEER. It hasn't be proven in the field, where water quality isn't constant.

As far as EER, almost all new higher efficiency units have a higher EER then they show on their water cooled condensers.

If you have good clean water. Try one.

Good Question.. Most commercial establishments have water cooled units with a cooling tower to recirculate the water after it is used.. if you install 1 in a residential setting you would run water through it then down the drain your water bill would be astronomical. I would only use water cooled if I had a way to recirculate the water or draw from a large body of water. You can do it if you choose.
