wall prep for wall mounted space heater


Utility room . Installing LP gas wall heater. Walls are currently studs with insulation in the. Do I need to put drywall on the wall to instll the heater? Thanks, Mary

Depends on the specific clearances in the install instructions and your local bldg code and the gas code. Whichever is the greatest distance you have to follow. Good idea to put drywall there. Some manufacturers are now giving the gas code info with their instructions.

agree with yuri good idea to put drywall on wall also check local codes for this type of install...ben

Thanks again. I got thefire resistent drywall. CAn I just patch where it is going on or do I have to drywall the room?

it would seem to me all you have to do is provide backing for where the heater is going to be and a few inches past for protection....

Check the local codes. If something goes wrong you can be liable and your house insurance void etc etc. As they say: Ignorance of the Law is no excuse.
