Vinegar in trane a/c drain
I was told to pour one cup of vinegar into the pipe that drains to the outside every time I change the filter of my Trane central a/c. What about adding bleach? Wouldn't that eat up the plastic? Does vinegar work to reduce mold that would clog the drain? How about rubbing alcohol (91 proof)? That kills mold. I'm wondering what other people do for preventative maintenance. I'm new to central air and any tips or suggestions would be appreciated.

I was told the same...that or Ammonia, for the reason you specified. And I believe bleach would help to break down the plastic eventually...but neither fact I can support with any sort of specific literature/data...so maybe someone else will chime in.
