a very odd problem with central air conditioner

this started happening at the end of last summer, i am not sure which a/c i have, but i have a carrier furnace system and a manual thermostat.

the problem is everytime i set the thermostat to cool it the furnace board fuse will burn out. i have no problems with switching to off or heat.

and the fuse doesnt take a while to burn, it burns instantly. i am thinking it would be electrical, but since i dont know anything about wiring and which wire is for a/c, i am not able to tell if the wiring is loose or cut.

if any further information is required please let me know.

air conditioning blowing fuses

You problem lies in a short in the cooling section of your wiring.
Remove your thermostat and make sure you do not have any wires touching on the ac side of the thermostat.

The cooling wire usually will be black or yellow ,Dependending.

Also make sure that it is not shorting out in the wall.

You will have to ohm out the wires

call a service tech. there are way too many things to list. bad ground, improper wiring, bad board, squirrel chewing wires outside, etc.....)

You may also have a short anywhere from the tstat to the furnace to the condenser unit ( outside ) to inside the condenser .

Just a stab in the dark , but go outside and see if the tstat wire from the furnace to the condenser , is exposed . If it is , did it get chewed in tow by a pet or a weed eater ?

disconnect the wire from the y terminal and c terminal on control board ..set t stat to cool see if it still blows fuse .. if fuse don't blow... problem is in control wire to condenser or contactor....

This is at least 2 ancient threads you have revived. Having some issues somewhere in life that cause you to not realize the dates when the threads were started?
