Venting a high efficiency furnace

Both my next door neighbour and I have our vents directly accross from each other. My neighbour's wall is iceing up badly around her vent and thinks its because of my vent directly blowing accross to hers. Our houses are about 4 feet apart. Could this be true?

Yes. Go look at them when the furnaces are running on a cold day and you will see it for yourself.

Know my question is how to fix this problem. Is it as easy as putting an elbow on the pipe to redirect the vent?

Maybe.

You can't put an elbow on that directs the vapors down.

You can try putting one on that directs it at a 45 horizontal angle.

Apparently, her house is better insulated then yours. If you don't have frost/ice build up on your house.

What been said. As long as you are not exceeding your vent run by adding an elbow, it should help.

So your neighbor is complaining about your vapors

Tell your neighbor to scoot over a little. I hate neighbors

The neighbour's house could very well have better insulation than mine. I bought this 90 year old house four months ago and have no idea whats in the walls.

I checked her vent and it looks like she has redirected it with an elbow horizontaly.

Thanks for the info all.

I would not add anything to the vent unless you check with the manufacturer. The termination must comply to their installation manual. Maybe they did not certify for a 45 elbow on the end of the vent. The code states you cannot vary away from what the manufacturer has certified. If it is not shown in the manual get a letter stating it is OK and have it on company letterhead and a signature. If not terminated as per manual the codes guy and shut it down. If there is an incident the insurance Co. does not have to pay as it is a re-engineered product.

On some installs. Instead of pointing the 90 straight out from the house. I turn them at a 45 angle to the homes plane.

He may be refering to doing the same thing.
