We are embarking on a total kitchen remodel, and want to switch from a JennAire electric downdraft range to a duel fuel range (LP on rangetop, electric oven). The range will be installed in a penninsula. We don't really want an overhead hood if possible, and there is an outside wall about 5' from the range. We were considering putting in a remote blower near the outside wall, and then ducting to a vent behind the range top. Will this be enough suction? There is a bar with seating just behind the range, which makes installation of a large blower not possible. Any ideas? Are we doomed to an overhead hood? If so, what is the maximum distance (minimum view obstruction) that a hood can be from the range and still function well.
My brother had his kitchen remodeled and they put a high suction system in the peninsula that worked extremely well. You pushed a button and it came up out of the counter behind the range and when done retracted. Was a super clean isntall and worked extremely well. I'll see if I can find out the name of the product they used.
