Venting Dryer through Existing Foundation Vent

Our house was built in the 80s, and like many homes built in the time, the dryer vents directly to the crawl space. We're in the process of getting this done, but have a couple of questions. On the wall where it would be most feasible to vent, there is an existing crawl space vent not 6" from where we would place the dryer vent.

Would it be an issue to direct the dryer vent through the existing vent? And if so, what would be the best way to do this? Trying to avoid drilling through a layer of block and brick for the dryer vent. Thanks in advance.

We can't see what your present crawl vent looks like but possibly you could retain the frame if there is one and replace the screen with something an outdoor style vent would attach to. Possibly pressure treated wood painted.

It's trimmed out in this piece.

I would guess it to be 6" tall and 10" wide.

Re: Venting Dryer through Existing Foundation Vent

You could not use the screening in that vent as dryers are not allowed any screen anywhere (or even screws sticking in the smooth metal ducting), other than in the unit. Maybe you could use part of the existing vent for dryer, IF local code allows- closing the other 1/2 off- if you meet foundation minimums for ventilation without that one... not likely, IMO.

17,000 dryer fires a year, when did you last clean the inside of the dryer near motor or the exhaust ducting?
