Vaulted cielings and cooling...

I have vaulted cieling in 3 large bedrooms of my house. It is get hard to keep warm or cool. I have cieling fans and they help. 2 off the rooms are facing west. So full sun from 1200 on and they have 2 huge windows. I was thinking of using a window film like Gila to keep some heat or cold out. Has anyone used it before...?

Don't know?...ask someone...

I have used it in the past. Looks ok for a year or two, but it scratches easy. I suggest to somehow shade the windows and or walls. maybe an awning or plant a tree or two... the old rule of thumb I was taught is that shade is 7 times as effective as insulation.

Bob is correct. Awnings make a world of difference. A Big Norwegian Maple, a galaxy.

Thanks for info..sounds good. I am definately looking into some trees but don't have lots of room for them in the front. Maybe awnings is the way to go.
