variable speed motor for hvac
 
can anybody give pros / con vatiable speed motors for a gas furnace

They are quiet and energy efficient. They help overcome some of the problems with restrictive ductsystems and high static pressures. Good for maintaining proper humidity levels in the cooling cycle and helps keep temps more even in both the heating and cooling cycles (when used with fan on). CFM's can be custom tailored to your system and your comfort levels. Unlike first generation variable speed motors, control head on motor is replaceable by itself now instead of needing a whole motor assembly.

Pros: Saves fuel, saves on electricity costs, quieter, usually can tailor blower speeds and cycle times.

Cons: costs a bit more than other furnaces.

Check with your electric or gas company to see if they offer rebates on such equipment.
