Utilities in attic?

Im going to be renovating a cottage that needs all new utilities (Furnace, water heater, etc). My question is if there is adequate room, can they be placed in an attic? I didnt know if it just depends on the space and capability of the structure to handle the weight, or if it is just illegal to do regardless. The other question would be is if it is cost effective ? The house currently has no ducting so it would all need to be run anyway.
Thanks

Utilities in attic?

Attics are perfectly fine for utilities, but there is a number of regulation codes that have to be observed, concerning clearances, structural support, maintenance access, appliance operating temperatures, etc.
