upstairs zone not working for the second time in a month

i have 2 zones in my house, upstairs and downstairs. the upstairs isnt working for the second time this month. last time it didnt work for 2 days and i changed the directional valve and nothing happened for another day then it worked all of a sudden. i still had a serviceman come by to check it and he purged my system and changed a valve. i came home yesterday (almost 2 weeks since the technician was here) and it didnt work again. i just changed my thermostat and nothing in the last 2 hours. any ideas??

Most zone valves have a manual lever which can be locked in the open position. .If you manually open the zone valve for the top floor and turn on the downstairs thermostat and the upstairs heats up, your problem isn't an air lock.
If you feel that the manual zone valve lever has resistance to being to being moved when it's thermostat is calling for heat, it's often because the zone motor has seized. Compare the feel of it to the other zone valve during a call for heat and when the thermostat is off..

Photos help..
