unit is trying to heat in cooling mode...

I have a comfortmaker, built in 95. it is really hot in our house at almost 90... when i try to get it to come on manually, by switching tstat to "on" position, nothing happens. When I turn off power to unit (inside unit), and then back on, sometimes the light flashed 5 times, other times it will only flash once then off. If i turn on and off a few times, then it will try to start, and sometimes does, at least the blower motor. My biggest question... why does it call for cool and then go into heat mode?? currently, all i can get... the blower motor blowing continously.
Thanks for any help!

while i am not off the top of my head fimiliar with the led diagnostic code it is most likely labled on the schmatic to me it sounds like a control board issue and would be worth it to get a pro with boots on the ground but if you can determin that it is the board that info would be helpful so the tech can come prepared
