UN-Comfortmaker RPJ2

Hello, Does anyone know what problems the comfortmaker RPJ2 could be having if it seems everthing is working and yet the burners won't fire up. The moter turns on , the igniter glows for 5-10 secs but no fire/heat. I am having a new baby soon and really want to get it fixed but not spend a lot of money "troubleshooting" with my dollars. Any and all help is welcome and it will keep my mother-in-law from harassing me when she comes in two weeks!

Is the gas shut off at the valve or the gas line? If gas is on, are you getting 24 volts at the gas valve?

The gas is on; the on/off valvue is located about three feet down from the unit along the pipeline. I do not know if I am getting 24 volts because I don't have a meter(maybe I can get one later). In anyccase , even though this is going to seem dumb, the igniter gets pretty bright and stays on for a while(5-10 secs.). Another thing is that I don't hear a gas "hissing" noise when it comes on. Maybe I am missing it over the motor noise but I think I should hear or smell somthing! Right?

Usually when the gas valve receives the 24 volts you will hear a "clink" or some such sound when the valve opens and a lot of times you can hear the gas. You might not smell the gas because of the draft motor pulling it out of the combustion chamber. Without a meter to confirm voltage at the valve there is no way to be positive, but I would think the valve is defective and needs to be replaced.
