Two Furnaces one return

Hello everyone.
I have gotten a lot of mixed answers and I am turning to you guys to help me make my final decision. I know I need a new Gas Furnace and A/C. I want a high eff one. but that is where it gets hard....do I want one system or two. Currently I have two 75k BTU with 1.5Ton A/C exact same systems. House is only 2,200k sq ft. Based on the tech's I have had over...one system 80k-90k BTU is plenty....so what's the problem???

THEY SHARE ONE MAIN RETURN!!!

Is that ok?
Is it true that I can't or at least don't wan't to have two variable speed furnaces on one return?
Anything is possible....but spliting the return will not be easy? That being said...am I better off paying the money to have the returns split properly...and then have two systems to offer better climate control???

Any advise would be great!!!

Get rid of both your existing furnaces and A/Cs. get 1-2 stage or modulating furnace, and a 2 stage A/C, and zone your house if your worried about uneven temps.
