Trying to wire Honeywell IAQ to Burnham RSM/96 oil boiler

I got a Honeywell vision pro IAQ because I wanted to combined the heat pump and boiler thermostat into 1 and have the heat pump lockout and switch to the boiler automatically. I think I had the heat pump wired correct (Trane XL15I / 4TEE3F31B1000A Air Handler). I have tried hooking up the furnace but it doesn't work. It is a Burnham RSM/96 boiler (2 zones) with domestic hot water. Only controlling 1 heat zone ( on the boiler) with the IAQ. The heat pump does have electric backup heat in it but Id rather not use that when it gets really cold here in PA.

I replaced the "old 2 wire thermostat" with the IAQ . I currently only have the IAQ hooked up to the boiler trying to get it to work before I rewire the heat pump again. I have it set that there is no fan for heat in the IAQ settings. I currently have the 24 volt and common running to the EIM and the 24 volt is jumped between the R/Rc/Rh. I have the common also running to the TACO zone value on the 2nd terminal. I have a wire running from W on the EIM to the first terminal on the TACO. Relays click but the boiler doesn't do anything.

Where does the 25 volts to operate the IAQ come from. Directly from the transformer that powers teh zone valves. or some other source?

Right now it is coming from the zone valves since i only have the boiler hooked up just trying to get it to work. When I had both the heat pump and boiler hooked up I had 24 volts from the HP hooked to R and Rc and the boiler hooked to Rh. Both commons hooked to C

It should be powered from the heat pump only. And an isolation relay installed to control the zone valve.

Trying to research isolation relays I guess the IAQ thermostat is a "power robbing" thermostat is that why it wont work when only the boiler is hooked up to it? Is there a certain recommended relay? Would the heat pump function 100% till the outdoor senor says it is too cold and then switch to the boiler with the relay added?

I see your from PA you don't happen to be close to Chambersburg do ya?? LOL The several companies we got heat pump esitmates from last year said it wasnt possible to hook up the boiler and heat pump on the same thermostat so we currently have 2 thermostats which my wife usually adjusts the wrong one in the winter. It disappoints me that a stat like this wasnt recommended by any of the companies we had out.

Its not a power stealing thermostat.
Just its internal relay configuration. Requires an isolation relay be used when you want to use a boiler as aux heat.

An isolation relay is just another relay in the circuit that the IAQ will close to bring on the boiler. But it keeps the transformers seperated.

Is there a certain relay or type of relay to use in this configuration?

Trying to wire Honeywell IAQ to Burnham RSM/96 oil boiler

I got a 24volt relay and hooked it up, still doesnt want to work. I hooked the coil side up to W3 and the common wire coming into the EIM from the heat pump, would this be right? I tested it and it only seems to be getting 12volts which won't pull the coil in. I hooked the coil up to the 24 volt source from the furnace to test the relay and it works fine on 24 volt.

Hook it to the W3 of the EIM, and the common of the EIM.

ok, thats how I had it wired and it (EIM) is only putting out 12 volts to the relay and not pulling the coil in to turn the furnance on.

Strange. Thats how I wire them. And I get 24plus volts when I do it.

So are you checking at W3 and C at the EIM, and your only getting 12 volts?

Thats correct. I get 26-27 volts at r and c on the EIM

Ok. Did you check that voltage while the relay was connected?

If so. And you got 26 volts. Then the problem is in your wire. may have the insulation under the terminal.
