Question

Trap Needed on HVAC Unit?

Hello all. I'm new here and have been searching around this forum for a similiar situation but I'm still not sure if I need the trap on my HVAC drainage system. I have a humidifier that ties into the drainage system and gets clogged at least once a year. So far, I've been lucky cleaning just the first foot or so of pvc pipe to clear it, but the rest is glued. So this year, I've decided to just replace all the pvc pipe. The A/C unit drains inside the house and the drain system is not hooked to the sewer system. It drains into the french drains in our basement. It appears the heater drainage tube comes out seperately from the heater and then runs into the pvc pipe below the trap.

I've added a few pics (hopefully they come out) where you can see the a/c drainage connection, then the trap (was going to cut it off at the X) and finally at the end where it drains out and what I believe is the heater drainage tube. There's also a long tube coming out the other side which I believe is a vent. Do I also need that?

Thanks for any help.

The trap is not needed, but it does prevent air from being blown out from the A/C drain. You should run a mild soap/cleaning fluid down the drain once a month.

Hum I say just run a drain only for the Hum. Lowes sales vinyl tubing.
