Transfer Grille / System
Thanks to BT I have located a 10" stud space to install a transfer grille system from an upstairs bedroom with no return air to the adjoining hall, however the nearest return air is across the hall behind the door in the opposing bedroom.

Several questions:

1. My existing returns in the other 2 bedrooms are at baseboard level. Should I add secondary ones above them at ceiling height and put in a set with dampers at floor level to switch the flow seasonaly.

2.The non vented B.R. Is approx 110 sq ft. Is there a preferred vent dimension to consider to offfset the available narrow stud space.

3. As there is no return air in the hallway would I benefit with a second transfer from there to either or both of the vented bedrooms or is this overkill? This center hall has also been prone to the same heat and cold issues of the unvented bedroom, although temp has improved much with increased attic insulation.

Do you have a return on the first floor in the dining room, or living room.
And if so, is the first floor open to the second floor hall.

If so. Just try the transfer grille going to the hall. Without adding other transfers yet.

Thanks BT,
Yes the stairwell is open and runs from the upper hall down to the foyer and FR at immediate right. The nearest RA is in the family room on the adjoining wall to the right of the stairwell heading down. The bedroom wall where the transfer would be cut is straight upstairs 4 feet to the left in the hallway at the top of the stairwell, so almost diectly above the FR wall, setback about 6 feet from the grille position in the LR with an open archway in between.

Just try the transfer grille to the hallway.

Sounds like it should make a good bit of difference without having to make a lot of other changes.

Many Thanks,
Will get at it along with the vanity retrofit (Bath 1), after the dripping shower head (bath 2)and plugged toilet (bath 3) and laminate floor and insulation.
Happy New Year
