Trane XE80 - No ignition

I have a Trane XE80, model number TUDO80c93680

Turned on the furnace for the first time yesterday and didnt notice any problem. Wake up this morning and its really cold in the house. Go downstairs and notice there is no burners fired up. The house was at 64 and the thermostat was set for 68 so there should have been something.

I turned off power, turned it back on and the blower kicks on, you can hear the gas valve clicking open but there is no glow and no ignition. I know previously my problem was that pesky flame sensor but that doesnt work if there is no flame at all. I read somewhere that it may be a Hot Surface Ignitor.

I'm a DIY'er who is pretty handy but without alot of HVAC experience.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Trane XE80 - No ignition

By any chance did any water get on the ignition control board over the summer? I am in the middle of replacing my board, we had the evaporator freeze up once and in the the thaw process the ignition board was soaked.:)

by the way mine is a american standard which is the same as a trane with differant decals!

Locate the HSI and look at it carefully with a flashlight. You are looking for a small area that will be whitish. This is where the hairline crack will be.

Sounds like you need a new HSI.

A faulty ignitor might look something like this...
