Trane Heat Pump Not Blowing Cold

Hi all. Thanks for having me on your forum.

I live in a newer (2 years old) high rise (I'm on the 3rd floor). Recently my Trane heat pump unit stopped blowing cold air. It still blows air, which is slightly cooler than ambient, but not the chill it was before. I opened the unit cover, it had a clog in the condensation drain which kept tripping the sensor and shutting off the compressor. I fixed the clog with bleach. It now runs with the compressor on, and no LED trouble lights. It makes the same hiss when I turn off that it has always made, just no frigid air. Its hot and humid right now in San Diego, help. Thanks

If the unit is only 2 years old any parts should be under warranty. Call in a pro who that works on Trane. You may have to pay for labor.

I'm thinking something like low charge due to a leak somewhere. If so, be sure they find and fix the leak instead of gas-and-go. You live in an area rife with A/C ripoffs.

Have you completely cycled power at the breaker. Some sensors will lock out the unit after it detects a failure. (usually abnormal pressures). This is to protect the system and can only be removed via cycling power or jumpers on the control board.

Before you call in tech, I'd turn power off at the breaker and then back on and see if the system reboots and then returns to normal operation. However if it's in lockout mode the compressor shouldn't run. It's worth a try though.

P.S. I've heard that bleach in the condensate system is a bad idea because the fumes can attack the copper in the evaporator coil.

Yes, cycled at the breaker. No help. The bleach was just in the drain pipe the leads away from the unit.
