Trane DBE 080 Horizonal Installation

Hi All: Newby here with a question. 7 or 8 years ago my 40 yo OEM gas furnace died (burned out heat exchanger). DW wanted A/C when furnace replaced. Old furnace was installed in house crawl space. Local HVAC Contractor advised that he could install A/C+Furnace in crawl space. We agreed on price and he installed Trane TDE 080 and a few months later sold the business and left the state. Since then I have had no major problems other than every time the new dealer tech comes to do annual PM he writes up horrible stuff on the original installation and that is the nature of my question. Do any of you pros know if Trane TDE 080 is approved or not for horizonal installation?

Look thru the owners manual/installation manual if you have it. What are the horrible issues? Take some pics and post them if you want more feedback.

Trane DBE 080 Horizonal Installation

Yuri, I am not interested in opening up the group to a great flame, all I hoped to find was some experianced Trane tech who knew the answer to the up and down question. Can a Trane air handler (furnace) model TDE080A945K be installed in a horizonal setting, i.e. air intake on left and discharge on the opposite end. I suspect it can be so installed, but I have been told otherwise by a dealer tech. I am suspicious of the tech's statement and want to confirm here. And no I was never given any written material when the unit was installed, and according to Trane site they will only supply the manuals to the dealer.

Hang in there, there are some Trane guys here. This site is WELL moderated so flaming is not allowed. Just trying to help you determine if the guy's comments are valid and we need to see what we are dealing with.

Trane DBE 080 Horizonal Installation

A long time ago, I woked for a trane dealer. The D in the m/n is for downflow/horizontal. Don't know about the install. But, looking at some of my old manuals, it is approved for horizontal.

I would say it is a downflow or horizontal furnace.

Thanks all you guys. As I proceed with this issue I'll be back. But you have confirmed my suspicions. FYI in the mid 1950s I worked in the white goods appliance industry and from time to time had occasion to get into the HVAC industry a tad bit, so I was familiar with OEM practise to sell multi-position hardware. I suspect that the tech was probably inexperianced. Thanks again, CRay
