Trane Blower Motor not working

6 year old Trane Central A/C not working for 2800 sqft house. Outside unit is working but the inside air handler is not. Neighbor looked at it and said it appeared the blower motor was bad. Repairman came out and confirmed that. The estimate says:

""Bad motor, will replace.

Option 1: ICM Motor $2001.03; Labor $245 Total: $2246.03

Option 2: New Air Handler: $4237""

Option 1 seems way high. Option 2 kind of high.

I just about a year ago had new outside and inside units replaced in a different house for a total of about $3500-3800 (cant remember exactly) taking note though that it was for a smaller capacity unit.

$2001 for a blower motor? Really?

Call the local trane dealers for quotes with model and serial numbers in hand. If they quote the same then yep it's a $2000 motor.

As Marty said, call other Trane dealers. You might get a lower price. However, you might want them to come out. As it may not be the motor, but the module instead, which is much much cheaper then the motor.

"impersonated" a contractor and called Trane. Gave them the model number and the serial number off the unit. They said the motor for our model is $248 -- obviously a contractor price. $2000 is good markup I guess -- for the repair guy.

Beenthere- What is an ICM motor? I've never heard of it but don't do a lot with tranes. Thought he meant ECM untill the $248 price quote, aint getting an ECM for that price.

We cannot even buy a non variable speed ECM for that price let alone an ECM. Maybe the impersonation did not work or they gave him a regular PSC price. Trane parts cost me about 50% more for no good reason other than their name.

I googled it and here it is and I believe it means the same thing as ECM. Our brand too
http://www.hvacpartsshop.com/28m29--...eedblower.aspx

Probably would be between $1000-1400 for my company to change a complete ECM on a G61V and like I said I have to pay 25-50% more for Trane so it could climb up to $2000. Something is wrong with the price they quoted him. May be able to buy an ECM ventor motor/fan for a Trane for that price if you are lucky. The use them on some older mids. Probably on newer units too.
