Totaline P286-1600 turning on when it shouldn't

My husband and I bought a building for our computer shop last year. The heat ducts here are awful and we try to keep the back section warm, which can get hot since the front section has the thermostat. To keep ourselves warm I set the Totaline (which was installed by previous owner) off and adjust it as I need it. We were having problems with it being on when we'd get in in the mornings, so I changed the program to only run if it got below 40F when we aren't here. I've tried to use "Run Program" but the heat is on HOLD TEMP set to 61F when I get in. I've tried OFF, but still the heat is on HOLD TEMP set to 61F (sometimes 51F). I put a password on the thermostat in case someone was coming in and turning it on, but it still does the same thing over and over. I've tried HOLD TEMP set to 40F and still, it's on in the morning.

Is it just time for a new thermostat or is there a way to fix this? I tried resetting it and making sure the program was set to 40F at all times. We are going to have a HUGE heating bill this month!
