Those darn register covers

So here's the annoying delima. I want to temporarly block off a heating register on the ceiling of a basement which still allows some warm air to leak when fully closed. At first for a quick fix, i duct taped cardboard over it to block the heat. This came off pretty quickly. So i picked up those magnet covers which seem to work well on wall registers, but always falls off that one on the ceiling. Is there a better product someone could refer me to??? If i get anymore irritated, im screwing a piece of sheet metal over the damn thing, but i want it to look good Thanks

Just change the darn grill to one that has closeable/adjustable louvers!

Either get a adjustable register or take the existing register out and put cardboard or whatever on the backside of the register and put it back up.

Seriously, dam the ducts. I've had customers that wanted to eliminate air into a room from the register but didn't want noise or unsightliness. Depending on duct construction or size, plastic lids work great. from coffee can lids to large paint can lids, you can get something to work.
Bear this in mind, if you go closing too many supply registers you could be generating other problems. Whether you know it or not, if a furnace doesn't get a certain amount of air through it, any number of devices or safeguards will become active and apparent failures could occur!

I removed my vent, placed a piece of tinfoil on the back to block the heat and popped it back in. Works like a charm. " Elena
