Thermostat Wiring Help Needed....
I bought a new programmable thermostat to replace the current Carrier HP model for Weathermaker 8000.

Carrier wiring:

Red to R
Green to G
Yellow to Y
White to W
Blue to O/W2
Brown to C

New thermostat has terminals for RH, RC, G, Y, W, O, B

I taped up the brown common wire and wired the rest as follows:

Red to RH jumpered to RC
Green to G
Yellow to Y
White to W
Blue to O

The a/c works fine. When switched to heat, the thermostat is able to trigger the fan but it never gets hot. Hopefully just a wiring issue? I was going to wire the old one back up today and try turning the heat on. I just bought the house so I have not used the heat yet. I was wondering if I have the White and Blue wires backwards on the new thermostat?

DO you have heat pump system?

Post brand and model number of new thermostat.

White Rodgers 1F78-151. The unit is a carrier weathermaker 8000 and the old carrier thermostat model # includes "HP" for heat pump. Thanks

See if this helps:

That thermostat requires a jumper from W to Y to run the heat pump in heat mode. Unfortunately it doesn't have the ability to run aux heat. So you'll need to take it back, and get one that can run aux heat.

Dammit. Thanks

So I need a 2H/1C for heat pump?

If you can find it local, or put the old one back for a bit for mailorder, very reasonable for what it does.

LuxPro Everthing Stat - PSP722E, 7 day programmable, 1 or 2 stage heat and/or cool

I found too many Heat Pump stats dropped to stage 2 (aux) heat if stage 1 (HP) ran for too long.
Well, that just killed the whole energy savings of a HP by turning it off after 30 min of running.

Shoot, if it runs constantly and keeps the temp at set point, why do I need aux heat, it's exactly balanced system then with the current outdoor temp!

The LuxPro allows setting that Stage 2 specifically as to when it kicks in. Maybe when your HP looses a whole degree in it's effort, or 2 degrees, or 1/2 degree, ect. Too low and a briefly opened door causes what may appear to be a loosing battle, but it's really a temporary dip.

Yes, you need 2 heat 1 cool, or better.

Many thermostats are listed as heat pump capable, but you need to read the description to make sure that it can operate the heat pump and aux heat.

Ok. I bought the LuxPro Everything Stat PSP722E. Still having problems. Please help :(

Carrier wiring:

Red to R
Green to G
Yellow to Y/Y2
White to W
Blue to O/W2
Brown to C

Lux Pro has RC and RH jumpered so I know I'll wire Red to RH. Green will go to G, Brown will go to C. I assume White will go to W1. I'm not sure about it O or W2? My old thermostat has a Y1 which is left open and yellow is in Y/Y2. I don't believe yellow goes to Y2 on LuxPro? Also, the new thermostat has E and B terminals but says O and B can not both be used. I'm :censored: lost

Yellow to Y1, and Blue to O.
