thermostat/furnace compatibility

My son resently moves into a now home and has a Comfortmaker heating/airconditioning unit (not a heat pump) he purchased a Lux TX9100E programmable thermostat to install. Are they compatible? I would appreciate any replies.

It may be a little overkill for what he needs depending on the furnace, but yes it should work.
