Tennessee contractors? TXV replacement
No change really. The HVAC guy replaced a return flex duct with a larger one to see if it would cool better. Doesn't. Still waiting on the Carrier guy to come back out, but his busy schedule has had me waiting for nearly three weeks now. I'm ready to give in. I can get a Goodman, 5 ton, 16 SEER A/C unit with a 92% furnace out the door for $3200 dollars. Supposedly a really good unit that is very efficiant. My wifes brother can get this for us at cost. I'm ready to make a deal with the HVAC guy to buy back the system that doesn't work to cover the installation cost for the new system.
I guess this is how the guys with no integrity operate. They keep you waiting all summer doing minor **** that they know won't fix the problem until finally the homeowner caves. Sucks! |

I cant figure why installers sometimes dont insulate the return ceiling box and flex to it. all that attic heat on extrem days will migrate into the living space as well as make the system ineffiant. WE would love to see some pics of the set up.

...and one other thing. Since they replaced the coil, whenever the a/c kicks on (i keep the fan running continuously) there is a loud bang that we hear through the ceiling. I went into the attic and waitied for the a/c to kick on and found the sound was coming from the air handler and that is was not nearly as bad in the attic. Neverthless, this is new since they "fixed" the coil. The HVAC guy said it is normal because the entire unit shuts off for a split second before the a/c starts. Sounds reasonable to me, but I don't know much about a/c.

Faulknertw, unless they have changed things in the last 8 years When you have the system on and the fan on continuous you should hear NO bang when the A/C starts. If the fan was coming on normally and you heard a bang I would say the unit was starved for air. If what you say is true then the bang is just that its starved and the cheap duct work is flexing. How big of a unit is in the attic?
