Tell me about RTV sealant

I have been trying to buy a tube of this sealant around my area, but no luck, home depot, lowes, and even tried a heating/plumbing supply company, they didn't even know what i was talking about.

So what is this used for ?

In my case, i took my Condensation pan off my furnace and i am sure its RTV sealant, because, it came off fairly easy and its was like a rubber, elastic type material.

When i put it back together i want too use the same sealant, so i ended up buying some on line.
I do notice there are some products in the USA that are very hard to find in Canada.

Yes auto parts store. It is used to bond mating surfaces that may or may not also have a gasket. It is also sometimes called gasket maker.

A plumbing/heating store that doesn't know what RTV sealant is????
Is a broad spectrum sealant that the HVAV industry favors for the versions of it that are heat resistant. (vent joints, ID assy gaskets, etc).
Since your Canadian..try your local Canadian Tire.
Diagnosing it as RTV sealant because it was easy to get off is sketchy. Sometimes it's bloody hard to get off depending on the temp's its been in & the mating surfaces.

The plumbing - heating store has been around since 1969, they have 13 stores in Ontario, and the guy i ask , been working there 21 yrs.. i was surprised...they never heard of RTV..Canadian tire didnt have anything either..

the parts i separated do not get hot, and it was plastic, so it was easy too disassemble .

Google RTV sealant. Canadian Tire lists it as one of their products.

i see permatex there in the store but no RTV, looking on line they come in small tubes, so i would need maybe 4 of them, better to just buy 300 ml tube on line.. i can get one for 4.99 ..

Do you have an Emco nearby? They should have RTV, and know what it is.

The mistake i am making is this is a auto shop product, in Canadian tire i was going to the household products, i need too go to the auto area, i bet that is where it is, or just go too a Auto parts store as suggested..
