Taking Down an old AC

When you tear out an old AC split system unit, what is the proper way to get rid of the R22 in the old unit?

Reclaim the refrigerant using a manifold set and reclaiming machine and recovery tank and pull unit into a vacuum. In other words a pro needs to do it.
