T-Stat trouble

Hi Everyone,

We have a heat pump/air handler system in our condo. Our probelm is when we set the T-Stat at 68 the fan is not going off when it reaches temp. It will stay on forever (we tested it). The Heat pump will shut down, but the fan remains on.

Now the wierd part. If we manually reset the temp on the T-Stat to 65, the fan will go off as long as the temp is above 65.

Is the T-Stats temp sensor going? I think the fan relay is working and the heat pump and fan seem to work as well.

Should I replace the T-Stat?

What kind of stat is it? Do you have a programmable "Fan ON" cycle in your existing stat.? Did you make sure your fan-auto switch is in the auto position.?

Hi,

It is a RiteTemp 8010. It is not programable and the fan is on Auto.

Carefully pull the cover off and see if you have 24VAC across the G and C terminals when this happens. If so, it might indicate the tstat is bad. Then see if your volts go to 0 when you reset the temp to 65.

Let us know what you find.

check what terminals the wires are going to at the tstat make sure y is going to the Y terminal and not W or E or aux
