Question

Switch from 16 x 25 x 1 housing to 16 x 25 x 4 housing?

Hi Everyone.

Narrowed down a spider problem to a 3 inch pipe that's beneath (yes) the big elbow that brings the cold air return to the filter housing, to the furnace.

I've seen 4 inch filters strongly recommended on numerous occasions in these forums, and since I have to take the elbow off to seal that darned hole with a backflow stopper (new home, builder probably screwed up and figured I'd never see it since the drain is a few feet away) - I figured I'd tackle switching the filter housing to accommodate wider media at the same time.

Here's where I'm stuck, I went to Home Depot and Lowe's to look for a filter housing in the HVAC section and they both have no such beast. Is this a super complex job? Or have the HVAC blackballers got the big box stores in a squeeze to fence off the filter housing service industry!

Thanks for any guidance you can offer!

Not something that is commonly done by most home owners. So the big box stores don't carry them as they would be slow movers. And take up valuable shelf space. You can order then on line.

Thanks for chiming in! I did check online, but am having a tough time finding the right part. I'd found this one (P102-FHG1625-6) from totaline.com but seems they'll only sell to businesses. (http://www.totaline.com/dl/PAGE%20F3...20HOUSINGS.pdf)

Anyone here a totaline dealer willing to ship?

Thanks.

They cost more. But they also filter better, and allow better air flow, along with last longer then a 1" filter.
