My sub-contractor doing the HVAC work on our new house originally bid to provide a Weil-McClain Ultra 155. Today after stopping at the jobsite I see that they are installing a Ultra 105, the next smaller size unit.
I was not consulted nor was I provided a credit for this swap. What kind of price difference is there between these two models?
Any advice on how to address this with my builder and the sub?
Thanks in advance for information and any advice or suggestions.
After following up on this with the HVAC installer through my builder I am going to receive credit for the smaller system. Their calcs showed that the 155 model was too large for the application and went with the smaller model.
Is it a load of bull? Who knows. At least I am going to see the credit.
The Ultra 105 provides 105,000 BTUs. In a well insulated home, this is a lot of heat!
My definition of the correct size heater is one that needs to run continuously of maintain 72 degrees F on the coldest day of the year. On a day any warmer, it will cycle off. A heater of this size will also provide more uniform heating cycles than a larger unit.
