I've got a 15 yr old heil furnace with issues. The fan kicks on, the glow igniter turns on, the pilot lights, but the main burner will not kick on. The gas valve is a year old and the igniter kit is 5 minutes old. I replaced it because it made since that that might be the problem.(but its not) any help would be appreciated.
check to see if you have 24 volts at gas valve..if you do bad valve,,,if you don't check for open limit, open roll out switches,,or other saftey switches....may be some saftey switches on blower housing.....
if pilot lights as you have indicated then iot could be that the flame sensor is not positioned properly to sense the pilot flame ..it should be positioned to have tip in flame and be close to ground/metal area of the sensor bracket..also could be touching metal somewhere thereby shorting the sensor out to ground OR cracked insulator allowing short
yes they had problems with there pin to gas valve connection ..smartvalve...try to jiggle connector when pilot is lit and calling for burnner to fire....but you said valve is only 1 yr old so i doubt if you have the old style valve...ben sr
Yes it could be the valve or the board! It's just that possible valve system gives us all so many problems.
If you give us the make & number of your gas valve or better yet
post a picture of it, the answers will be more helpful.
ignition control is part of gas valve.Double check ignitor/sensor is mounted in pilot assy properly.I had one that was not setting properly due to c clip not installed right, and flame sensor was touching pilot hood.Pilot would lite but no main valve.Repositioned correctly and furnace took off.
could you take off ignitor an get us a picture of it ....the wire from gas valve to ignitor looks odd... i had a tempstar i put a universial ignitor kit it went to pilot like your's ...put on oem ignitor did the trick...ben sr
Also I am getting 28 volts with the unit on and just sitting. Is that what it should be? And by on I just mean on. Not going through the sequences just sitting at idle.
The one I took a pic of is the old one, but it is the exact same one I just put on. Should I get 28 volts at the gas valve where the 3 wires go in from the igniter?
And for the record I appreciate everyone's input on here. I own a roofing company so I will be helping people with roofing questions to return the favor. Great site to be a part of.
you could also try pulling the plug on control board p1 and plug it back in to see if maybe a loose connection...not what you want to hear...but it seems like another defective valve... follow that chart ......
That's what I thought. It has 24 volts when nothing's happening, but when the pilot lights up it drops down. And that's as far as it goes, main burner never lights.
K, I can't understand how you are checking for voltage while the ignitor is plugged in. If I remember correctly, my ignitor has 2 blue and one..hmmm, some other color wire grouped together at the gas valve.
Is the voltage not just temporary?
