Strange HVAC Issues - Ignitions Multiplying

Hi there,

Okay. My furnace comes on when it is supposed to and heats the house appropriately. After it sounds like it has shot off, it seems to reignite as if it wants to start up again. Recently it started trying to reignite twice. It's very strange and a bit concerning in a house with three children. The unit is about 22 years old and I don't know the last time it was ever serviced. Any ideas on what it could be?

The Brand and model would help. Obviously if you can't remember when the last time it was serviced, it's long overdue.
It may not be going all the way through the heating cycle but is instead being shut down via a safety control and then attempting to re ignite again.
When it tries to re ignite again at the end of the heating cycle, if you then turn up the thermostat, will it immediately start up again?

If it is an oil furnace that can be VERY dangerous. You may have raw unburnt oil in the chamber re-igniting. Need to get it checked ASAP.
