stop and go

I have a Heil ( I think) split unit. I have noticed the ac will sometimes stop very breifly then start blowing again. Almost make you think 'did that thing just stop and start again?'. Whats up with that? Replaced the contactor a few months ago.

No ideas out there on this problem? Contactor letting go? bad connection? Dirty? No ideas?? Bound for me to have a problem no one knows anything about.

I have a Bryant split system that will also do that. I believe its a normal occurance as the AC system determines what speed the blower will run. If its just a glitch in the system, then it has not harmed anything that I can tell.

No it is not normal. Give me some more details. Is the fan (indoor) shutting down or the condenser or both? when you say briefly do you mean seconds or minutes? if it is just the indoor fan, it is pretty common for the fan control board to intermittantly fail in ICP units (ICP makes carrier, heil, tempstar, bryant and a few others) if it is the Outdoor unit also i would look for a loose connection from thermostat or failing thermostat.

Just a second or two..maybe. Starts back about as quick as it stops. Not sure if the outside unit is doing too. Last time I cleaned it (outside unit), it did not seem to get as clean as I thought it should get. Shouldn't the water hose run through the coils completely. Haven't had what I thought was really good cleaner in a while. I like it when it foams and lifts the contaminants from the condensor coils.

a clean coil is important but will not cause what you are describing, Determing weather the whole system or just the inside unit shutting down would make a big difference on possible causes.

try running it with auto off on controller and then try 1-3 fan speeds on manual.
I am with ABHAC, you need to determine if the outside is doing it also...Unit could be tripping out on L.P...? if it has an auto re-set L.P
