steam radiator question

The pipes were clanging. So, I took the vents off and water came pouring out. Is that what was supposed to happen?

steam radiator question

NO. There could be couple problems. One is the main vent is plugged, that could be interesting to find:}, or there is blockage in the wet return.
First make sure all radiator vents are working,All valves are open, Also make very sure the boiler is NOT OVERFILLED.

Check the water fill valve. It could be leaking through.
