Some questions regarding furnace replacement
Our hpme has Carrier a/c and furnace. A/C was installed two years ago. The mid-efficiency furnace is more than 18 years old which was installed when house was built.

When I had a install. quote on new replacement furnace, I was quoted for 6K on York Affinity series 98% AFUE 120K BTUh modulating furnace.

Here my question is;
1. Is it OK mixing equipment brands?
2. Is this particular model York furnace good choice?(reliability)

They quoted on Carrier and Goodman(both non-modulating, 95% AFUE just 2 stage heat and multi speed blower) Here the price difference was 400.00 less and 1000 less than York.

I hope this furnace will be the last one in my life time. experts, please your comments/suggestions/advices appreciated with this issue at hand.
I'd like to get this project over with ASAP.

As long as the sizing of the two units is properly determined there is not an issue with different manufacturers.

Big furnace, so I'm guessing you have a big house.

The York is a good furnace, able to provide good comfort too.

In over 30 years of service,I have only seen 3 or 4 homes that needed more than a 100,000 btu furnace.
What you need very badly is to have a manual "J" and AND,AND a manual "D" done to find out what your home needs.Putting in a unit too big will not make you more comfortable,it will only cost you more to be comfortable.
It isd your right to recieve an honest quote.Any quote without both those manuals is a very lazy and dishonest quote.If they are going to be lazy with a quote just imagine how many short cuts they will take with the install and what they screw up now you will have to live with for the next 20 years.
