So Many Heat Pumps..... Help!
I own a 1650 sq ft home in Central Fl and am going to replace my 3 ton 7 yr old Carrier Heat Pump. During the summer it just can't keep my house any cooler than 80. I have looked into several brands.. I;m pretty sure I want to go with a 3.5 ton Variable speed Heat Pump... Rheem seems to be so much less cost than Trane... Van anyone advise. I'v also looked at Goodman, Intertherm, Kenmore, Frigidare, Maytag, Carrier... I think I'm getting more confused than ever... Any advise is welcome
I had an HVAC service guy tell me once to watch out.. A brand in particular (starting with "L") :) have a lot of proprietary parts so replacement for any bad parts such as a pcb board, relay, etc had to be their part and their part only.
Now, in all fairness, expensive proprietary replacement parts may be the norm with many brands, but service cost and availability is a criteria I would at least investigate. The above mentioned brand I just threw under the bus though :) happens to be both of my condenser and air handler units and they are both going strong at around 18 years now, so that's also another large consideration.
All this is just one guys opinion and limited info but thought I'd offer.
I also have a Quality Engineer friend who's worked for Carrier and back with them now infact and he's quite proud of their commitment in design and manufacturing quality levels.
Hope I helped more than I just threw out opinions and hearsay with no real facts or data. hehe
I for one love rheem /ruud.this is all that i install.Ive installed many brands. Ruud/Rheem #1. BUT the installing contracter is the most important thing. With out a good contracter who knows what hes doing.nothing would work right.
