So I looked INSIDE one of my HVAC ducts, see what I find?

I just bought a house built in 1957. It's forced-air furnace heating. The heat ducts are in the crawl space. I inspected one end section of the heat duct last night down there. I removed one section of pipe and guess what I found? There were 4 pea-sized dead roaches hugging together just as the pipe is about to rise to the floor. Deeper inside the duct, there were couple of more dead roaches and a layer of dirt covering the pipe. (see photo). The ducts probably have never been cleaned for the past 54 years! And I don't think those "duct cleaning companies" that work only from the registers could clean the main section of the HVAC ducts. My feeling is that most people have never ever check INSIDE their HVAC ducts and just keep using it. But I am worried about the health risks etc.

So my question is:
1) have you ever looked inside your HVAC duct? How did it look?
2) Is my duct considered very dirty or is just normal? Should I do something about it?

Thanks!

Those ducts are how old? They're very clean compared to many I've seen that were much newer. They are probably as clean (with minor exceptions) than most ducts are after cleaning.

You should worry more about the asbestos.

If that duct was installed in 1957 and it has never been cleaned, then my cousin is a unicorn. There's no way it looks like that after 54 years of operation without a cleaning.
