Sleeve ac barley blowing air

Hi,
We have a sleeve ac unit in a condo we rent out and it seems to barely blow air. Is that something we could maybe buy a new fan motor for or is it best to replace the unit?

Nope. You need a new unit. Which will mean that the new one will not fit into the old wall sleeve. Talk to your Condo board and building maintenance if there is a particular model that can fit the sleeve you have currently.

Maybe something bad, maybe something good. I guess we'll never know, 'cause you're going to guard it. You won't touch it, will you?

It may be just a bad capacitor, causing the fan to spin too slow. Check it before buying a new PTAC when you may not need a new one.

PTACs come in many different physical sizes.

Is the fan running slow or is it just not blowing out enough air?
Checked the air filter and fins to see if there clean?

I took the cover off and the blower grill was almost completely blocked. Cleaning that did help but it still seems to blow pretty weak. The prior tenant didn't complain but I just don't remember how it worked two years ago.

How could I check bad capacitor?

You would need a multimeter that check read/check uF. If you don't have one available, you cna simply try putting in a new one. take the old one to Grainger, and get one that matches it.

There is also a good chance that the coil is dirtier then you think. Spray it with Simple green, let it soak for a while, and then rinse it off. Or just run it.

PTACs often don't blow real hard.
