Simple duct work

Quick question for all. I've got a house that used to have baseboard radiators supplied by a oil burning boiler. Long story short, the boilert and radiators have been removed. I'm planning to install a heat pump with the associated ductwork. I keep postponing it for financial reasons and for the last three years we've been heating the house with a wood stove and some portable electric heaters.
My wife thought maybe we could install an air handler with a plenum heater using just very basic ducting. As it stands right now, the wood stove is in the basement and we just have a fan that we sometimes use to push the warm air up the stairs.
I'm thinking of just a simple supply register in the living room/dining room area along with a return air possibly in the kitchen. I'm not real worried about heating the bedroom as we both sleep better when it's colder.
The house in question is North central ND. It might not happen and we might just tough it out a couple more years and do it right in 2012.

Thanks

Don't put a return in the kitchen.

Just be careful about carbon monoxide whichever way you go.
